PISTIL’s story is a compelling narrative of passion, heritage, and innovation that transcends the ordinary path of architectural practice. It all began with a simple suggestion to David Contreras, who would become our COO and Principal Architect. This suggestion to pursue architecture ignited a deep inner calling that transformed his life and career.
What sets PISTIL apart is the remarkable discovery of a family legacy intertwined with the very fabric of architecture in Texas. David uncovered that his great-grandfather, Anselmo M. Longoria, was a pioneering Tejano architect whose influence shaped the Dallas and South Texas regions. Starting as a foreman at M.R. Nelson Construction Company, Anselmo’s journey was marked by perseverance and innovation. After earning his degree from Chicago Technical College, he established his own architectural practice in McAllen, Texas, where he designed a variety of significant structures, including commercial buildings, churches, and residences.
Anselmo’s contributions went beyond design; he was an inventor who developed The Polygonal System and The Mansional building board, technologies that revolutionized construction methods of his era and continue to impact the field today. His legacy is embodied in enduring landmarks such as the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission, Texas, a testament to his visionary approach.
This rich heritage deeply informs PISTIL’s philosophy. Each project undertaken is infused with a profound respect for the client’s unique story and a commitment to purposeful design. PISTIL honors its architectural roots by blending tradition with innovation, aiming to create spaces that not only serve functional needs but also inspire and endure.
In an industry often driven by transactions, PISTIL stands as a beacon of meaningful architecture, where every building tells a story, every design carries significance, and every legacy begins with a vision. Their journey exemplifies how heritage, creativity, and passion can come together to shape environments that truly matter for generations to come.
